Previous Years: Presenters & Topics

Revival: Restore the Vis 2017 Presenters and Topics

Christy Lee-Engel, ND, LAc and Greg Yasuda, ND
-  "Medicine Poetry"
Bioethicist Edmund Pellegrino said that the humanities “teach us to deal with the unmeasurable phenomena of human existence”. Come explore with Dr. Greg and Dr. Christy how poetry, and a poetic attentiveness, can help us to be better physicians and vaster human beings. We'll include conversation, reading and reciting aloud, maybe writing together. Bring a favorite poem, about medicine, sickness, life and death, nature, or anything actually, if you like (we'll also have an assortment to share).

Leanna Standish, PhD, ND, LAc, FABNO
-  “21st Century Psychedelic Medicine”
The role of naturopathic medicine in psychedelic botanical medicine. Ayahuasca clinical, neuroscientific and neurotheological investigation.

Molly Niedermeyer, ND
-  "Health is Freedom of Limitations"
Dr. Niedermeyer will lead a discussion in applying the principles of naturopathic medicine to case studies that will include the philosophy as applied to the SOAP, diagnosis and treatment protocols. We will discuss simple principles and how they apply to our patients such as "thing are not random","health is freedom from limitations"," you are only as healthy as the environment you live in", "all pain is congestion". And other intriguing sayings. She will help you start to look at the critical analysis and measurable outcomes to helping people institute the six stages to change.

Durr Elmore, ND, DC, LAc
-  "Following the Vital Force"
Homeopathy is the most holistic of healing therapies. Proving symptoms are produced in people on the mental, emotional and physical levels. We treat successfully only be considering these three aspects of a human being. Homeopathy works in accord with the vital force, working with (rather than against) the direction of illness. I will present several cases that seem almost magical in the rapid and permanent effect of the simillimum in curing acute and chronic diseases. Questions are encouraged, and the remedies in each case will be discussed.

Tony Murzek, ND, LAc
-  "Daily Actions to Improve Adrenal Health and Vitality"
Dr. Murczek will lecture and demo ways to use muscle testing to get more information and feedback in vivo to add to information gained from lab testing and physical exam techniques taught in school. Through muscle testing the client we can consolidate the “vis” and direct the healing process by allowing the body’s inner doctor to determine what modality is needed, for what length of time, and most importantly in the priority that body wants it done. We will be discussing how important turning on digestive organs and blood sugar regulation are in long term adrenal recovery efforts. This will be an experiential workshop.

Louise Edwards, ND
- "Cultivating Awareness"
Naturopathic doctors must be both “detectives” and “puzzle masters”, finding the clues that allow us to solve the puzzle of each individual’s disturbed health. Cultivating our awareness, using all our senses and intuition allows us to perceive more subtle information and to be better “detectives”. This interactive presentation will give instructions and methods to improve your level of awareness on multiple levels.

Council of Naturopathic Elders - A Facilitated Session
- "How to Think Like a Naturopathic Physician"
Hosts: Bruce Milliman , Pamela Snider, (in absentia  - Lori Stargrove)
Ceremony: Robert Lester
Elders: Herb Joiner Bey ND, JoAnna Forwell ND, Pamela Jeanne ND, Jim Massey ND, Raymond Diaz ND, Patrick Donovan ND, Bruce Milliman ND, Pamela Snider ND , Leanna Standish ND, LAc,, Durr Elmore ND...still considering others)

Six to nine invited Elders will begin by addressing this rich topic in the round, in ceremony presenting and dialoguing lightly with each other, during the first hour. Our Elders will share with you - and with each other - their seasoned experience of the healing power and processes of nature from a naturopathic and individual perspective. Each will share prepared  pearls of 'how to think like a Naturopathic Physician'; in this spirit, each Elder carries a medicine which lives within them, and is both distinctly Naturopathic and distinctly their own. Naturopathic physicians are truly "all the same, only different." (Joseph Holcomb, ND).... Immerse yourself in the dynamic wisdom of clinical thinking shared in a warm intergenerational circle; hear reliable strategies, deep experience which reflects the distinct principles and unique profession of Naturopathic Medicine, and honor our inheritance and our legacy- the Vis Medicatrix Naturae.
In the second hour the Circle will then engage in reflective, spontaneous dialogue with one another. We will "draw from the many baskets" in either the Circle or in smaller groups with Elders and Revival attendees in each group, with a return to the circle for final sharing.
